Deaths - George W. Gatschet
George W. Gastchet, 95, a resident of St. John’s Of Hays Nursing Home, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1993, at the rest home.
He was born March 26, 1898, at Solomon to Simon and Mary Anne (Blunderfield) Gatschet. He grew up on a farm southwest of Solomon and graduated from Solomon High School. He served in the Army during World War I. Upon completion of military service, he moved to Hays. He married Agnes Brull. She died Dec. 21, 1947. He married Agnes Sack, who died Jan. 13, 1985. During most of his life, he taught in area schools. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the third order of St. Francis and was an affiliate of the Capuchin Order.
Survivors include four sons, Tom, Paul, and George Jr., all of Hays, and Francis, Manhattan; one daughter, Jeanne Winter, Garden City; and 28 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the church with Father Fred Gatschet officiating; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visiting hours are from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Brock’s North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 8 Sunday at the funeral home. The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree will stand honor guard on Sunday evening. The family suggests memorials to St. John’s Nursing Home Corp., Capuchin Province of Mid-America, Thomas More Prep-Marian High School or St. Joseph Catholic Church."
