Edward ALCOTT 1-A0420 was born about 1859 in Yorkshire. He died 2 on 19 Aug 1918. Edward married 3 Annie Ellen BLUNDERFIELD-B0428 about 1895.

Edward was counted in a census on 31 Mar 1901 in Palewell Lodge, East Sheen Mortlake, Surrey. He was described as Head of family, married, aged 42 years, a Landowner in the USA. He was counted in a census on 22 Apr 1910 in 65 Irving Place, Manhattan, New York. He was described as Head of family, married, aged 49 years, in the Timber / Land business.

On the birth certificate of his daughter Isabella in Mortlake 1899, Edward's occupation is stated to be a Timber Merchant and in the 1901 census as a Landowner in the USA. There are numerous entries for Edward Alcott in passenger lists to North America (presumably to buy timber), sometimes he was accompanied by Annie. Both Elvie Herd (E41) and I have searched extensively for a marriage but to no avail, so it seems possible that they married in America during one of these trips.

Annie Ellen BLUNDERFIELD [Parents] [scrapbook]-B0428 was born 1 on 28 Feb 1870 in Sisland, Norfolk. She was christened 2 on 27 Mar 1870 in the Church of Saint Mary in Sisland, Norfolk. She died 3 on 03 Feb 1962 in Warrenton, Virginia, USA. She was buried in Sudley Cemetery, Manassas, Virginia, USA. Annie married 4 Edward ALCOTT-A0420 about 1895.

Annie was counted in a census on 02 Apr 1871 in Sisland, Norfolk. She was described as Daughter aged 1 year. She was counted in a census on 03 Apr 1881 in Sisland, Norfolk. She was described as Daughter aged 11 years, a Scholar. She was counted in a census on 05 Apr 1891 in White House, Sisland, Norfolk. She was described as Daughter, single, aged 20 years. She was counted in a census on 31 Mar 1901 in Palewell Lodge, East Sheen Mortlake, Surrey. She was described as Wife, aged 31 years. She was counted in a census on 22 Apr 1910 in 65 Irving Place, Manhattan, New York. She was described as Wife, aged 38 years.

Annie and her husband went to live in New York, where they made and spent two fortunes. Edward was in timber/lumber brokering and supplied much of the timber used during  the construction of the streets of New York City during the change over to pavement (sealed roads) because of the automobile. This was his first fortune - which somehow was lost. However, he went onto mass another fortune, as a timber mill proprietor in Virginia.

Both Edward and Annie Ellen are residents of New York City in the 1910 US census.

Annie Ellen Alcott is listed as a widow and a block mill proprietor and resident of Manassas in Prince William County Virginia in the 1920 census. After Edward died she mismanaged the business and lost everything.

Annie lived in the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City for 23 years in the early part of the last century. Many very wealthy Easterners had permanent homes in the hotel…..but they had to be extremely wealthy!

Anne's brother, Percy Page, spent many years not speaking to Anne. She was widowed for many years living in the USA without the wealth her youth had afforded her. She fell on hard times and had borrowed heavily from family members. Percy was promised a swift payback, but after years of empty promises, he ceased to talk to her or of her for many years.

They were reunited at some point, because there are pictures of the two of them when they were elderly.
