George GOLDSMITH [Parents] 1-G0505 was born on 02 Mar 1843 in Lowestoft, Suffolk. He was christened on 02 Apr 1843 in St Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, Suffolk. He died about Aug 1907 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. George married Harriett TAPPREN-T0504 about May 1865 in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

He was counted in a census on 03 Apr 1881 in North Raglan Street, Lowestoft, Suffolk. He was described as Lodger, married, aged 38 years, working as a Farmer of 10 acres. (Not with his wife). He was counted in a census on 05 Apr 1891 in 7, Harbords Building, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. He was described as Head, a widower, aged 46 years and working as a Dairyman. He was counted in a census on 31 Mar 1901 in 7, Harbords Building, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. He was described as Head, a widower, aged 56 years and working as a Dairyman.

Harriett TAPPREN-T0504 was born on 14 Sep 1839 in London, Middlesex. She was baptized on 04 Oct 1839 in St Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London, Middlesex. Harriett married George GOLDSMITH-G0505 about May 1865 in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

Harriett was counted in a census on 30 Mar 1851 in 7, Hungerford Arcade, St Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London, Middlesex. She was described as Daughter aged 12 years, a Scholar. She was counted in a census on 02 Apr 1871 in 9, White House Street, Lowestoft, Suffolk. She was described as Wife aged 29 years.

Records for the period before Harriett's marriage have proved quite elusive. From the few facts known, it seems very likely that she was born in 1839 in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields, London to William TAPPREN, a Dairyman, and his wife Harriet (nee KERCHER). There were at least two siblings; William TAPPREN (b. c1837/8) and Charles Henry James TAPPREN (b. 1Q1841, St Martin). However, when the Census was taken in June 1841, only the parents and two boys are listed living in St Martin in the Fields, no sign of 20 month old Harriett.

The whole family, including 12 year old Scholar Harriet are at 7, Hungerford Arcade in St Martins, the same address as in 1841.

In late 1852 the family were still living in St Martin in the Fields, when William (the father) died. The mother Harriet re-married on the 25th of June 1854 in St Marylebone, London to James Frederick HAIG.

In 1862, a Newspaper item mentions a Miss Harriet Tappern living at 13 Denmark Road in Lowestoft. A quick look at that address in the 1861 census shows a James HAIG (39, Dairyman), Harriet Haig (41) and son Charles TAPPERN (his age is shown as 15 and that he was born in Winchester, same as his mother, these could be enumerator errors, particularly place of birth as it's a ditto). This seems to confirm the connection but once again no sign of Harriett.

Records have been found for her marriage, the baptism of their child Harriet Maria GOLDSMITH and finally the 1871 census. After that she, and daughter Harriet, disappear once more. Her husband George is living alone as a lodger in Lowestoft (though still saying he is married) but in 1891 and 1901 he says he is a Widower. No death records have been found for either mother or daughter in that time period.
