May was counted in a census on 02 Apr 1911 in The Street, Loddon, Norfolk. She was described as a Boarder, aged 8 years, at School.

Like her brother Neville, May chose to use the Clarke surname at some point after 1911. She used the name May Clarke when she married in 1926.

Charlotte Ann BLUNDERFIELD [Parents]-B0452 was born 1 on 01 Aug 1865 in Beccles, Suffolk. She was christened 2 on 03 Jan 1875 in Southwold, Suffolk. She died 3 about Feb 1949 in Depwade (RD), Norfolk.

She was counted in a census on 03 Apr 1881 in 15 & 17, London Street, Norwich, Norfolk. She was described as a Draper's Assistant aged 15 years. Date of birth was recorded as 01 Aug 1865.

Other marriages:
HUTTON, Herbert Richard

At the age of 15, she was using the name Anna and working in Norwich as a Shop Assistant for Garlands Drapers in the Market Place. The 1881 Census suggests that she and twelve other young female assistants, were living in (probably above) the large store.

At the age of 17 years, she becomes pregnant and gives birth in September 1883 to a baby girl  named Ethel May Blunderfield. The birth isn't registerd but over 2 years later, she has the child baptised. No father's name is given and the mother's name is stated as Emma - perhaps the clerk or Vicar, misheard the name Anna and wrote down Emma (or was she trying to hide her identity). Sadly, Ethel May died in January 1887 from Scarlet Fever. The death certificate records the mother's name as Anna Blunderfield a Shop Assistant. It is not known if her parents had any knowledge of this child.

Charlotte received a legacy from her Uncle George Blunderfield (B0501), Gentleman of Cawston, when his Will was proved in February 1887

A few months later she is pregnant again and gives birth in January 1888, this time to a baby boy she named Francis Blunderfield. Her parents were certainly aware on this occasion as they brought him up and were clearly complicit in hiding the childs true origins. In the 1891 and 1901 censuses Francis is living with Charlotte's parents and recorded as Nephew (it should have been Grandson). By the time the 1911 census was taken, Charlotte's parents were both dead and she is Head of the household, aged 44 years and still single. Francis, now a young man of 23 years, is recorded as her Brother!

Charlotte married Herbert Hutton in October 1911 and Francis married Ivy Belton a few months later.

In the marriage register, the space for Francis's father's name is blank - did he ever know who his father was or indeed that Charlotte was his mother? As there are no descendants on his line, therefore no DNA possibilities, we will never know.

She had the following children.

Ethel May BLUNDERFIELD-B0352 was born on 15 Sep 1883 in Norwich, Norfolk. She was christened on 06 Dec 1885 in St John de Sepulchre, Norwich, Norfolk. She died on 03 Jan 1887 in Chester Place, St John Sepulchre, Norwich, Norfolk from Scarlet Fever.

The baptism record for Ethel May, records the mother's name as Emma.

Sadly, Ethel May died in January 1887 from Scarlet Fever. The death certificate records the mother's name as Anna Blunderfield. In the 1881 Census, Charlotte Ann is using the name Anna Charlotte. Perhaps the clerk or Vicar, at the baptism, misheard the name Anna and wrote down Emma. Or was she trying to hide her identity - no birth registration has been found.

The Death Certificate states that the mother was Anna Blunderfield, a shop assistant. Death was registered by Keziah Barker who resided, and was present at the death, at Chester Place. Perhaps this was where Anna (Charlotte Ann) was lodging for her work as a Draper's Assistant.
