It is curious that Marianne had begun to use the middle name of 'St Helia' when the 1911 Census was taken. She was not christened or registered with this name but used it (or similar) at both of her marriages (1912 and 1944).

Perhaps, as a young teenager, she admired the young Helia who had strong disagreements with her mother and her Bishop regarding virginity and marriage. St Helia is said to be the patron saint of attrition.

It is clearly spelled as 'Helia' in the 1911 census and at her marriage to Samuel Graham but the Derbyshire Marriage Index shows it as St Helier at her second marriage. There is a Saint Helier of Jersey, although he seems less likely.

The middle name was not used in her GRO Death Index entry.
