Obituary for George Edgar Blunderfield

On November 19th 2018, George Edgar Blunderfield passed away peacefully and without regret at the North Shore Hospice after a life well lived!

George was born in Winnipeg Manitoba to Edgar and Elenore (McLaren) Blunderfield on July 9th 1939. He grew from humble beginnings in a large, loving family that knew the value of laughter. George was an active member of the CYO where he met his wife Arlene (Jestadt). Married in 1963, he moved to Kitchener, Ontario, received an advanced marketing degree from the University of Waterloo and had two children. George enjoyed bowling, golf, travelling and the Lion’s Club where his larger than life personality made him the highlight of Octoberfest events. Above all he was an adventurer and storyteller who loved to take his family on the road with camping trips across Canada and throughout the US.

George brought his infectious energy and integrity to a 20-year career with Benson & Hedges. He was an inspirational leader as he rose to become the National Sales Manager in Montreal. He would eventually return to Vancouver to fulfill his wife’s dream to open Arlene’s Interiors in 1984. Joined by their children, the business grew to 3 locations and was highly regarded for over 28 years, perhaps best known for treating everyone like family. George was respected for how he stood by Arlene during a long illness until her death in 2004. He successfully sold the family business in 2011 and retired, to enjoy time with his growing family and marriage to Frayceane (Yardley) in 2016. Upon learning of his diagnosis of Dementia and Melanoma in 2017, George openly shared his journey, while remaining hopeful and positive to the end.

Full of warmth and kindness, quick with a joke or a song, he knew how to live life well, to dance and laugh and to bring a smile to another, George will be sadly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

George is Predeceased by; his parents and his wife, Arlene, along with beloved siblings Fred, Anne, Monica and Margarite.

Survived by; his wife Frayceane, children Karen (Chris) and Russ (Debbie), Grandsons Christopher (Jesyca) and Alexander and great-grandchildren Hunter and Emma as well as sisters Ella May and Bernice. He will also be missed by his extended family including step daughters Laura, Lorna, Leslie & Lisa.

The family would like to thank the many nurses and doctors that cared for George at Lions Gate Hospital, Oncology department, Palliative care on the 4th & 7th floor, and the North Shore Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in George’s name to the Lion’s Gate Hospital Foundation or The Alzheimer’s Society.

Funeral followed by a reception to be held on Monday, December 10th at 10am at the Burquitlam Funeral Home.

Frayceane (YARDLEY).

Other marriages:
JACKSON, William

Mary Ann's mother, Margaret, died in November 1880 at the very young age of 23 years (during Childbirth?). Two years old Mary Ann was with her father in Oswaldtwistle when the 1881 Census was taken. In 1891, she is living with another family in Cherry Street, Blackburn and described as adopted.

It looks as though Mary Ann and William Grogan 'had to get married'. They married towards the end of 1900 and their son Stephen was born in January 1901. In March 1901, when the Census was taken, they were living with William's father in Hutchinson Street, which was in the Grimshaw Park district of Blackburn. The marriage was not a success and Mary Ann left William Grogan some time before 1906, when it is thought that her next child, Thomas, was fathered by William Jackson. Sadly, Thomas died within a few months. DNA testing has proven that William Jackson was definitely the father of her next child, who was baptised Thurston Jackson Grogan. It seems certain therefore that all of her subsequent children were with William Jackson.

All of the children's births were registered with the surname Grogan as were their baptisms.

When the 1911 Census was taken Mary Ann is living with William Jackson in Back Friday Street (close to Hutchinson Street). William answered most of the questions truthfully; William states that he is Single, Mary Ann as a married Boarder but the two living children, Stephen and Thurston, were described as Sons of the Head (only Thurston was). Mary Ann's father William is also Boarding at that address.

In 1911, William Grogan was living in a Registered Common Boarding House, also in the Grimshaw Park area, he declares that he is married (11 years) and, truthfully, says he has one child still living.

In the 1921 Census, and in the l939 Register however, Mary Ann and William Jackson are both shown as married and all of William's children are listed with the Jackson surname   No marriage record has been found - the most likely reason for this is that Mary Ann and William Grogan did not divorce.

In 1939, William Grogan was still living in a lodging house in the Grimshaw Park and still stating that he was married.

They had the following children.
