One of those listed is Mr Blunderfield, of 36, Upper Seymour Street, Portman Square who sustained a bruised shoulder. Thomas is recorded at this address in the 1851 Census a few months later.

Thomas appears to have had a variety of occupations. In the 1851 Census, he is described as a Cabinet Maker, by 1861 a Carpenter and Joiner. A Bankruptcy Notice in 1864 gives his occupation as a Cheesemonger. A newspaper article in 1867 reports him as the Verger at his local church (although this was probably unpaid and part time). In 1871, he is working as an Estate Agent. In 1881 as a Clerk with the London Steamboat Company and finally in 1891, the Census describes him as a Commercial Traveller in Soap.

His work with the London Steamship Company may have allowed him to travel. There is a Thomas Blunderfield arriving in Sydney on the 2nd June 1882, aboard the 'Egmont' from Rockhampton. He was travelling in Saloon Class rather than Steerage.
