He was described as Head of family, married aged 43 years, working as a Boarding House Keeper.

Mary Rebecca HOMES-H0492 was born on 21 Aug 1855 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. She was christened on 09 Oct 1855 in British Chaplaincy, Saint Petersburg, Russia. Mary married 1, 2, 3 Frank Middleton BLUNDERFIELD-B0476 on 16 Feb 1888 in Clarendon Road Congregational Church In Watford, Hertfordshire.

Mary was the daughter of Frederick James Homes and his wife Annie. Soon after Frederick married Annie Mitchell on the 20 August 1852 in London at St James, Westminster, they moved to St Petersburg in Russia where Frederick worked as an Engineer. FamilySearch shows four daughters being born and baptised in Russia, including Mary Rebecca in 1855. At some point before 1881, Frederick died, as Annie is recorded as a Widow and Annuitant, living with three of her daughters in Station Road, Beccles in Suffolk. However, Mary's whereabouts in 1881 are not yet known.

Mary's mother Annie was born in Watford, which could explain why Mary married Frank Blunderfield there in February 1888.

We know that Frank travelled back to Australia from Plymouth just two days after they were married and Mary followed him a month late, She departed from London on the 16 March 1888 on board the Orient Line's steamship 'Oroya', in a 2nd class cabin. Arriving in Sydney on the 29 April 1888.

What happened then is a mystery. Frank Middleton Blunderfield spent the rest of his life in South Africa and his death record states that he married Sophia Hope in London on the 24th July 1888! Where is Mary Rebecca?

Charles Augustus BONHAM-B0631 was born about Aug 1841 in Soho, London, Middlesex. He died about May 1891 in Eastbourne, Sussex. Charles married 1 Mary Ann Martha BLUNDERFIELD-B0630 on 05 Dec 1868 in Holy Trinity Church, Islington, London, Middlesex.

William Ellis BLUNDERFIELD [Parents]-B0437 was born 1 on 23 Aug 1858 in Loddon, Norfolk. He was christened 2 on 13 Oct 1858 in the Wesleyan Chapel in Bungay, Suffolk. He died 3 on 23 Mar 1895 in Loddon, Norfolk. He was buried on 28 Mar 1895 in Holy Trinity, Loddon, Norfolk. William married 4 Mary Louisa Wright GOODRUM-G0412 on 20 Sep 1893 in the Church of St Andrew, Gorleston, Suffolk.

William was counted in a census on 08 Apr 1861 in The Street (Westside), Loddon, Norfolk. He was described as Son aged 2 years. He was counted in a census on 02 Apr 1871 in Gildengate Street, Norwich, Norfolk. He was described as Grandson aged 12 years, a Scholar. He was counted in a census on 05 Apr 1891 in Street, Dennington, Suffolk. He was described as Head of family, unmarried, aged 33 years, working as a Grocer and Draper.

William made his Will on the 20th October 1894. It would seem that he was in good health at the time as he makes provision for any children that Mary Louisa and he may have in the future - unusual though to make a Will at the age of 36. Sadly, he died (cause not known) on the 23rd March 1895 and his Will was proved at Norwich on the 19th April 1895.

Mary Louisa Wright GOODRUM-G0412 was born 1, 2 on 09 Jan 1865 in Seething, Norfolk. She was christened on 12 Jul 1868 in Seething, Norfolk. She died 3 on 25 Oct 1949 in Sheffield, Yorkshire. Mary married 4 William Ellis BLUNDERFIELD-B0437 on 20 Sep 1893 in the Church of St Andrew, Gorleston, Suffolk.

Mary was counted in a census on 02 Apr 1871 in Loddon Road, Mundham, Norfolk. She was described as Grandaughter aged 6 years (Using name Louisa Goodrum. She was counted in a census on 05 Apr 1891 in Street, Dennington, Suffolk. She was described as Housekeeper to Wm Ellis Blunderfield, aged 26 years, unmarried. She was counted in a census on 31 Mar 1901 in Street, Loddon, Norfolk. She was described as Head of family, a Widow, aged 35 years and living on her own means. She was counted in a census on 02 Apr 1911 in The Street, Loddon, Norfolk. She was described as a Widow, aged 42 years, working as a Housekeeper. She was counted in a census on 19 Jun 1921 in Bridge Street, Loddon, Norfolk. She was described as Head of household, a Widow, aged 52 years and 6 months, of Private Means and carrying out home duties. When the National Register was compiled on the 29th of September 1939, She was living at High Street, Loddon, Norfolk. She was described as a Widow, aged 66 years, carrying out Household Duties. Date of birth was recorded as 09 Jan 1866. Her will was probated on 21 Jan 1950 in London.

Other marriages:
CLARKE, William James

Mary Louisa was the daughter of the unmarried Sarah Goodrum. The father is believed to be James Wright an Agricultural Labourer also of Seething. This explains why her birth was registered with the name Mary Louisa Wright Goodrum. However, she was baptised in 1868 as Mary Louisa Goodrum and only her mother's name Sarah Goodrum was listed in the register (no mention of Wright). When the 1871 Census was taken, Mary Louisa, aged 6 was recorded as Louisa Goodrum and living with her father James and grandparents. At the age of 16, 1881, she is in service as a Housemaid with a farmer in Norton Subcourse but using the name Mary Louisa Wright. By 1891 she was working as the Housekeeper for William Ellis Blunderfield, a Grocer and Draper in Dennington, Suffolk and using the name Lucy Wright.

A couple of years later, in 1893, she married William Ellis Blunderfield and used the name Mary Louisa Goodrum. Sadly, William died in 1895 before they had any children. Mary Louisa inherited and moved into Bugdon House in Loddon - she was joined there by William James Clarke; they never married but had two children who were named Neville Victor Clarke Blunderfield and May Clarke Blunderfield. Curiously, when May's birth was registered, Mary Louisa gave her Maiden name as Wright.

In the 1939 Register, Mary is listed at High Street, Loddon as a Widow and living with William J Clarke a retired Sadler.

She died at number 59, Bushey Road, Totley (near Sheffield) but was described as of Bugdon House, Loddon.

Probate was granted to her son Neville Victor Clarke, a Gas Engineering Draughtsman. Effects £77-6s-4d.

The bungalow in Bushey Road, was the home of her daughter May and husband Edward Rowbottom. The Electoral Registers show only May and Edward at that address in May 1945 but from October 1945 to 1949, Mary Louisa Blunderfield is also listed. So, aged around 80 years, she must have gone to live with her daughter.

Edward and May continued to live at that address. They are both listed in the Electoral Register in 1970 but only May in 1976.

Benjamin BLUNDERFIELD [Parents] 1-B0715 was born about Sep 1778 in Heckingham, Norfolk. He was christened 2 on 06 Sep 1778 in the Church of Heckingham House of Industry, Norfolk. He died 3 about Aug 1850 in Bermondsey, Surrey. He was buried in St James's Church, Bermondsey, Surrey. Benjamin married 4, 5 Mary DYE-D0705 on 18 Feb 1807 in the Church of Saint Nicholas in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Benjamin was counted in a census on 07 Jun 1841 in Parkers Row, Bermondsey, Surrey. He was described as Carpenter aged 60 to 65 years.

In the London Land Tax Records, Benjamin Blunderfield is listed at the following properties.
1811 - Church Street, Southwark St John. (Proprietor was Lady West)
1813 - Crucifix Lane, Southwark St John. (Proprietor was Christ Hospital)
1814 - Church Street, Southwark St John. (Proprietor was the Gov't Grammar School)
1815 - Church Street, Southwark St John. (Proprietor was the Gov't Grammar School)

Benjamin is mentioned in the will of his father which was signed on the 4th June 1814.

Mary DYE-D0705 was born about 1785 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. She died 1 in Dec 1855 in Thorpe, Norfolk. She was buried 2 on 11 Dec 1855 in St Andrew's, Thorpe, Norfolk. Mary married 3, 4 Benjamin BLUNDERFIELD-B0715 on 18 Feb 1807 in the Church of Saint Nicholas in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

Mary was counted in a census on 07 Jun 1841 in Parkers Row, Bermondsey, Surrey. She was described as aged 55 to 59 years. She was counted in a census on 30 Mar 1851 in Thorpe Road, Thorpe, Norfolk. She was described as Mother in Law, aged 65 years, a Widow and an Annuitant.

They had the following children.

  F i Mary BLUNDERFIELD-B0637 was born on 10 Feb 1808. She died on 06 Feb 1871.
M ii Benjamin Dye BLUNDERFIELD-B0632 was born on 20 Apr 1809. He died on 05 Dec 1889.
  M iii
Robert Joseph BLUNDERFIELD-B0651 was born 1 on 10 Oct 1813 in Bermondsey, Surrey. He was christened 1 on 07 Nov 1813 in Saint John Horseleydowns, Bermondsey, Surrey. He died in Jun 1816 in Bermondsey, Surrey. He was buried 2 on 27 Jun 1816 in Bermondsey, Surrey.

There is also a baptism record on the 29 Aug 1819 at St Saviour, Norwich for a Robert Joseph Blunderfield, son of Benjamin (a carpenter) and Mary. It does appear that the family moved back to Norwich for a while (since their son John Dye Blunderfield was also baptised in Norwich) but why baptise Robert Joseph twice? Perhaps the first one died and this was a different child. The baptism record doesn't state the age or date of birth.
F iv Martha BLUNDERFIELD-B0633 was born on 31 May 1815.
  F v
Charlotte BLUNDERFIELD-B0634 was born 1 on 23 Apr 1817. She was christened 1 on 28 May 1817 in Saint John Horseleydowns, Bermondsey, Surrey. She died in Feb 1818. She was buried 2 on 19 Feb 1818 in Saint John Horseleydowns, Bermondsey, Surrey.
M vi Robert Joseph BLUNDERFIELD-B0635 was born on 06 Aug 1819. He died on 25 Jan 1847.
  M vii
John Dye BLUNDERFIELD-B0636 was born on 20 Apr 1821 in Norwich, Norfolk. He was christened 1 on 13 May 1821 in Saint John de Sepulchre, Norwich, Norfolk. He died in Dec 1823 in Bermondsey, Surrey. He was buried 2 on 07 Dec 1823 in St Olaves, Bermondsey, Surrey.

It is strange that John was baptised in Norwich. Whilst his parents were from Norfolk and were married in Gt Yarmouth, they moved to London before 1809 and their 4 earlier children were baptised in Bermondsey, London. However, there appears to be only one Benjamin and Mary producing children around this time and Mary's surname was Dye, so the linking seems valid.

Benjamin Dye BLUNDERFIELD [Parents]-B0632 was born on 20 Apr 1809 in Bermondsey, London, Surrey. He was christened on 31 Dec 1809 in Saint Olave, Southwark, Surrey. He was counted in a census on 30 Mar 1851 in 'The Kings Arms', 58 Pepper Croft Street, Milton, Kent. He was described as Head of family, married, aged 40 years, working as a Licensed Victualler. By the time of the 1851 Census, however, he was Landlord of 'The King's Arms' public house at 58, Peppercroft Street, Milton.

Benjamin must have retired as the landlord soon after the 1881 census was taken, since the name of George Wady appears in the 1882 Post Office Directory as the landlord of The Kings Arms.

The Kings Arms was demolished in 1965.

Maria Ann PHILLIPS-P0603 was born on 10 May 1814 in Deptford, Kent. She was christened on 05 Jun 1814 in St Mary's Church, Rotherhithe, Kent. She died 1 on 25 Aug 1857 in Gravesend, Kent. It could be that she had two stillborn babies - whilst the births did not need to be registered at that time, a Death Certificate was required in order to bury a stillborn child.
